ScienceDaily\u00a0(Aug. 20, 2010) \u2014 Eating more green leafy vegetables can significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, finds research published online in the British Medical Journal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

No one is certain why whole green leafy vegetables cure so many common ailments. One thing scientists have discovered is that isolating a single compound from a green vegetable does not provide the same health-benefit results of consuming the entire vegetable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authors believe that fruit and vegetables can prevent chronic diseases because of their antioxidant content. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach may also act to reduce type 2 diabetes risk due to their high magnesium content.<\/p>

The authors argue that \u201cour results support the evidence that \u2018foods\u2019 rather than isolated components such as antioxidants are beneficial for health \u2026 results from several supplement trials have produced disappointing results for prevention of disease.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
