A lot of people ask me, “How long does it take to juice?” I have a few questions of my own:
- How long does a sitcom last?
- How long does it take to drive to McDonald’s, go to the drive-through, and get your food?
- How long does it take to walk up a flight of stairs when you’re carrying around a sack of dead weight around your torso or thighs?
- How long does it take to make a trip to Starbucks?
- How long does it take to visit the doctor when your body is sick because its malnourished?
- How long does it take to recover from a heart attack?
- How long does it take to lie to yourself that you will finally take control of your health and lose weight?
- How long does it take to “get things done” when you lack energy?
- How long does it take to read ESPN.com or US Weekly?
- How long does it take to go play with your kids when you lack the energy to get off of the couch?
How long does it take me to juice? It takes me 15-20 minutes. That includes prep time (rinsing and cutting the produce), juicing, and cleaning.
The time I spend juicing each day saves me from spending countless hours feeling sick, lacking energy, being fat, and simply lacking the energy to get things done.
Your health is the most important thing you have. Without your health, you can’t work to support your family. You can’t protect those who need you. You may die young, leaving sad friends and family members.
Many people fail to make time for their health because it feels selfish. “How can I take time for myself when others rely on me?” Although it seems selfish to focus on your health, the truth is that it’s selfish not to.
Failing to commit to your health is failing to committing to be the best father, husband, mother, wife, boss, employee, shareholder, and citizen you can be. When you have greater clarity of thought, better mood, and more energy: Everyone around you benefits. When you’re fat, sick, and nearly dead: You are phoning in your work and personal relationships. You are present without being “there.”
You have more than enough time to juice. One might say that you don’t have time not to juice.
