When it comes to health and fitness, boring is good. Because there isn’t much profit in boring, gurus rarely praise one of the most powerful superfoods out there.

Carrot juice

This superfood doesn’t come from the Amazon rain forrest. Tibetan monks didn’t meditate over the package before shipping it off thousands of miles away. This superfood won’t be shown on the Dr. Oz show. No celebrity will endorse it.

You can buy 10 pounds of them at Costco for $6, and five pounds of them from even high-end grocers like Whole Foods for around $5.

The title gave it away. Of course we are talking about carrots.

  • Carrots are a staple of juicers for a few good reasons.
  • Carrot juice tastes delicious (even to people like me, who hate the taste of raw carrots).
  • Carrots juice easily in an Omega and Breville juicer.
  • Carrot juice gives the skin an even tone and glow, similar to a sun tan.
  • “Drinking carrot juice may protect the cardiovascular system by increasing total antioxidant status,” according to a recent scientific study.
  • Carrot juice has anti-cancer properties. The Stanford Cancer Center, among other august institutions, advises cancer patients to start drinking carrot juice.

Although most of us are used to orange-colored carrots, you can juice heirloom carrots as well. Heirloom carrots are not as sweet as typical carrots. Heirloom carrots also have different antioxidants. (The colors in the skins of fruits and vegetables denote different antioxidants. This is why you should Juice the Rainbow – that is, throw as many different fruits and vegetables in you juice as possible.)

Carrot Juice Recipes

Carrot Apple Ginger

  • 4-5 carrots (orange of heirloom)
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2-1″ of ginger

Combine all items into a juicer and enjoy. Use more or less ginger depending on how spicy/warm you like your juices.

Carrot Apple Ginger Kale

  • 4 carrots
  • 3-6 kale leaves and stems
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2-1″ of ginger

Use more or less kale depending upon how “green” you like your juices. Remember that the green in kale combines with the orange in carrots to turn your juice a brown color. If you’re trying to get someone to try his or her first juice, skip the kale or they may find the color off-putting.

Real V8 Juice

  • 2 carrots
  • 1/2 of a medium-sized beet
  • 1/2 nub ginger
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 lemon (peeled)
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 1 handful parsley
  • 1 tomato

(Add and subtract ingredients to suit your taste preference.)

Juicing carrots will improve your health in a multitude of ways. Accordingly, you should juice carrots regularly. Jack LaLane used to start each morning of his 90+ years with glass of carrot juice.

As a carrot juice lover…I’d like to inform any blond men out there that steadily drinking carrot juice will turn your hair brown. For me that wasn’t a big problem, however it was an interesting side effect…..
another point though is many hours in the sun will bleach out the carrot effect darkening of you hair…but during winter months if you are used to blondhair you will increasing not only not straddle the border between ashblond/brown….but will become a brunette.

I juice carrots a lot. In almost all juice that I make, I put carrots. I use the Omega 8006. When I put carrots down the chute, the whole drum starts to shake. Therefore, I started chopping the carrots before I put in down the chute.
