Although juicing should be a simple, healthy lifestyle change, a person who wants to start juicing can be quickly overwhelmed when buying a juicer.
(Making a Real V8 Juice with a Breville Compact Juice Fountain.)
There are several different types of juicers. There are centrifugal, masticating, single-gear, and singer-auger juicers. There are juice presses. There are dozens of juicers ranging in price from $50 to a $2,800.
Your juicer needs to be fast, easy-to-clean, and inexpensive. If your juicer is slow or hard to clean, then you won’t use it. If your juicer is expensive and you don’t like juicing, then you’ve just wasted a bunch of money.
Therefore the first priority when buying a juicer is to buy a juicer you will actually use. Described below are two of our favorites. These are the best juicers under $100.
Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor
Rated a “best buy” by Consumer Reports, the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juicer 67650 is only $60 or so with free shipping on Amazon. I’ve juiced hundreds of pounds of produce – everything from apples and carrots to kale and celery. My Hamilton Beach juicer is still going strong.
The Hamilton Beach is fast. It will rapidly cut through carrots, beets, apples, celery, and other hard fruits and vegetables. You can juice a half-gallon of juice in about 15 minutes. If you just want a glass of juice, you’re done in 1-2 minutes.
Second, the price is right. You can’t beat $60. The Big Mouth has a strong reputation for reliability. It is well-constructed and a great value.
Finally, it’s are easy to clean. Everything but the blade is dishwasher safe. The only challenging part is cleaning the blade. There’s a special brush that comes with the Big Mouth. I timed myself, and it only took 90 seconds to clean the blade after juicing several pounds of produce.
(Pro tip: Use one of your produce bags to line the pulp waste bin. That’s one less piece you have to rinse off.)
Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain
The Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700-Watt Juice Extractor is another great buy, at $99 (with free shipping at Amazon.com). It looks more attractive than the Big Mouth Juicer and works like a charm. Countless friends and readers juice with the Breville Compact Juice Fountain. I have used it. They have used it. We all love it.
With either of those juicers, you are in-and-out of the kitchen, depending upon whether you’re making one juice or a full day’s juice, in 5-20 minutes.
The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juicer and the Breville Compact Juice Fountain are the best juicers under $100. You can’t go wrong with either of them.
If you really enjoy juicing, as I do, then you’re ready to step it up a level.
